Automatic updates
QuickInstaller can check your apps on a schedule and, if you choose, install updates for you without a prompt. It runs at your normal permission, only while you are signed in to Windows.
Set up a schedule
- Click the Settings button (the gear) in the title bar.
- Choose Updates & automation and scroll to Scheduled updates.
- Turn on Schedule update checks.
- Set Every a number of days (1 to 90) at the time you want. The starting values are every 1 day at 12:00.
- Choose what the schedule does. With both Apply updates boxes off, it only checks. Tick Apply updates for installed applications, Apply updates for portable applications, or both, to install updates without asking.
- Close Settings. The schedule is saved when Settings closes.
What runs on its own
Every run checks your installed and portable apps, just like clicking Check. When an Apply box is ticked, QuickInstaller then installs updates exactly as Install Updates Silently does. It skips:
- apps you chose to ignore;
- apps that cannot be updated silently;
- updates that need administrator access, unless QuickInstaller already has it. A scheduled run never stops to ask.
An app counts as updated only when its new version is detected afterwards.
See the result
When apps were updated, a notification reads "N apps updated. Open QuickInstaller to view them." Turn it off with Show a notification after updates are applied. A failed update is always announced, once for each offered version. Skipped apps are not. The status bar shows counts only, such as "Automatic update: 3 updated, 1 skipped, 0 failed". A check-only schedule shows how many new updates were found.
Windows Task Scheduler
The schedule is a task in Windows Task Scheduler, in folders whose names start with QuickInstaller. QuickInstaller owns those tasks and runs them as your own Windows account, never as SYSTEM. Do not edit or delete them. If one is missing or damaged, Settings says "The current account has no registered update task." or "The current account's update task needs repair." and shows Repair.
Turn it off
Turn off Schedule update checks. Your choices are kept for next time.
